"Ladies and genitals! Welcome to the Whisky! You love this band almost as much as I do?"

With those words, Aerosmith's Steven Tyler kicked off the band's April 8 return to the storied stage of the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles, more than 40 years after they last played the club. As Tyler later told the invite-only crowd, "The first time we played here was Dec. 3, 1973. It was the first time formally here but also the first time in California. The first time west of the Mississippi was right here! That was then and this is now. And look what happened!"

What's happening now is the band's 'Let Rock Rule' tour, which will see Aerosmith touring the U.S. and Canada with support from Slash this summer. Given that the Whisky show was being held to help celebrate that day's announcement of the 'Let Rock Rule' dates, it came as no surprise when Slash strolled out on stage to fill in for the missing Brad Whitford -- said to be upholding a previous commitment -- at the close of the set.

Slash came out for 'Mama Kin' and the closing number, 'Train Kept A-Rollin',' as well as a brief, tongue-in-cheek instrumental burst of Guns N' Roses' 'Welcome to the Jungle.' The show came to an end with Slash and Joe Perry trading solo licks while sharing a mic with Tyler during the chorus, and as a clearly jazzed Tyler left the stage, he shouted, "Bring it baby. Bring it! Rock and roll is forever! Come on!"

If the rest of the 'Let Rock Rule' tour can hang onto even a little of the Whisky gig's energy, it should be a summer for Aerosmith fans to remember. Check out the set list below, and watch video from the show at the top of the post.
