They did it. The Buffalo Sabres did it. They put their foot on the throats of the Washington Capitals and pushed down hard. Last night's 5-1 victory moved the Sabres into 8th place and put their playoff fate in their own hands with only 5 games left.More importantly, the Sabres overcame adversity and looked like the better team. The often criticized core of the Sabres contributed too. Thomas Vanek with a blast from the top of the slot and Jason Pominville stealing the puck from the Capitals Superstar Alex Ovechkin and scoring a short handed goal in the second period that pretty much sealed the deal. The Sabres were down two defenseman at one point with injuries to Christian Erhoff and Andrea Sekera. Patrick Kaleta sacrificed his already injured hand and blocked a shot too. And the Tyler Ennis, Drew Stafford, Marcus Foligno line continued to tear it up as the best line in the league right now. Stafford netted two, and Ennis was the Menace setting up Stafford's second on a nifty move and pass. That line has 16 goals in the last 9 games.

The win didn't come without a price, the Erhoff injury looked bad but this team is used to it. They have already lost over 300 man games this season. They will find a way to overcome it. Just like they did last night.
