5 Amazing Places for Late Night Eats in Buffalo
We’ve all been there, it’s after midnight and maybe you’ve had a couple (too many) adult beverages…Then it hits you, hunger. Luckily we live in one of the best cities in the country for foodies late at night (trust me, I’ve gone drinking and eating in every major US city). Here are my Top 5 Best Places for Late Night Food in The Queen City.
#5 – Towne Restaurant
Towne is a fan favorite for a variety of reasons. First and foremost being that it’s open 23 hours a day! All you have to do is look at a menu to figure out this is a place that caters to night owls..Like all great diners, if the lights are on, they’re serving breakfast which is really important when the craving for a spinach and feta omelet hits you at 3 am. Not a breakfast person? Not to worry, Towne has enough Greek dinners on their menu to keep your stomach at bay for days. If you’re an eggplant fan you really can’t go wrong with the Moussaka (Alternate layers of eggplant, ground beef and potatoes and topped with a thick béchamel sauce).
Here’s the best part – nothing is going to break the bank, in fact most of the menu selections will be covered by the quarters and crumpled up dollar bills you’ve been stuffing into your pockets as you’ve gotten change for drinks throughout the night.
Towne Restaurant is located on the corner of Elmwood & Allen. Check out their full menu (with prices) at www.thetowne.net
#4 – Louie’s Hot Dogs
I know, I know, when you think of a hot dog joint in Buffalo you think of Ted’s. Well unfortunately for the fine folks at Ted’s this is a list for people who like to do their eating in the wee-hours of the morning and Louie’s STAYS OPEN LATE. How late? Try 4 am. While that’s not late enough to eat after you get kicked out of the bar after last call it is open late enough to hit up RIGHT BEFORE trouble usually starts at any local watering hole.
Don’t get fooled by the name either, Louie’s offers A LOT more than just really good hot dogs. Their burgers bring a lot more to the table than simple drunk food and the milkshakes are worth the trip by themselves. Most humans will be able to fill up shelling out little more than a Lincoln (the bill, not the coin, Louie’s might have been founded in 1951 but they’ve updated their prices since then).
Oh and here’s an added bonus for you – THEY DELIVER! If you’re throwing a house party you can bring the eats to your doorstep as late as 3 am. But delivery is really key THE MORNING AFTER, delivery starts at 10am on Friday and Saturdays (sorry, closed Sunday).
There are several locations but the one I’m talking about is located at 470 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo NY. You can learn some more about Louie’s history, check out the menu and get that delivery number at LouiesHotDogs.com
#3 – Denny’s
You don’t have to say it, I know what you’re thinking: “Denny’s? That’s a national chain, what’s it doing on THIS list?” Well to be honest, I had to throw a bone to the people that might not always be going out in Buffalo city proper. Plus, Denny’s has a knock out menu and they’re open 24/7! While it’s certainly not going to win any culinary awards or claim the top spot in the “Local” category, Denny’s delivers a solid experience, reasonable prices and there’s one within any designated driver’s radius. In case you’re wondering, I go for the Moons Over My Hammy. Every. Single. Time.

#2 Jim’s Steakout
If you’re from Buffalo you knew this was going to end up on the list. Possibly Buffalo’s favorite late night food joint, Jim’s slogan is “If You’re Up, We’re Probably Open” and for good reason too they’re open 10:30am to 5:00 am SEVEN DAYS A WEEK.
Like most people from Buffalo, I know Jim’s not for their steak hoagies (which are incredible, by the way) but for their CHICKEN FINGER SUB. I order mine hot, with blue cheese, no onions, you need to know this in case you see me out and want to make a good impression.
While most menu items might be a little on the pricey side, I think we can all agree they’re worth it. If you’re hungry and willing to shell out upwards of $15 for a sandwich, drink and some fries; Jim’s Steakout is the place you know you need to go.
My favorite location? Elmwood near Bidwell, I’ll even drive past the Elmwood and Allen location if I’m hungry enough. For more locations (there are TEN now!), menu and price information check out JimsSteakout.com
#1 223 Allen, The Old Pink
You should have guessed this would be my #1 spot for late night food, so if you didn’t…read 929JackFM.com more and PAY ATTENTION!
What can I say about The Pink? It’s dark and damp and more often than not smells just a little bit off. But the crowd is amazing, the staff is unique and they have HANDS DOWN the best steak sandwich in Buffalo. Sure you probably don’t want to look at the grill it’s prepared on and never mind your chef/bartender was just slamming a shot of Jameson. Once you taste this hand pounded steak covered in cheese, onions and peppers, you’ll forget all about where it actually came from. You’ll melt into the weird rock music in the background and become one with the red lighting above you.
It’s what late night bar food always aspired to become and it’s arrived at 223 Allen St. Buffalo NY.
PS – The grilled chicken ain’t too bad either. Especially if Drew Love is behind the pine and on the grill.
Alright Buffalo those are my picks and they’re probably the best but if you think you have some better ideas, let me know – COMMENT BELOW!
